Why study this course?

This short course will be invaluable to those working in a professional or voluntary capacity with dogs. Caregivers and foster carers may also benefit from the suggestions put forward in this short course. The course discusses past and current literature and what we can learn from these studies, and explores some of the myths surrounding separation related behaviour.

No course on separation related behaviours would be complete without a discussion on the language of fear, one emotional response that is often closely linked to separation problems.

The course discusses some of the methods that can be employed to prevent such problems and how to work towards changing them, and includes a complex case study for additional learning opportunities.

The behaviour modification techniques are based on the 7 emotional systems that Panksepp identified and what Veterinary Behaviourist Dr. Robert Falconer-Taylor suggests as an additional ‘emotional system’ – Pain. We consider the role of social pain, too.

This course is a self-study course. At the end of the course you will be required to answer some short multiple choice assessment questions in order to receive your certificate in Helping Dogs with Separation Related Behaviours. You have 1 year from purchase in which to submit your questionnaire.
